What is the challenge?
Put your class’s engineering skills to the test with the ExploreLearning Gingerneering Challenge. Your class will design and decorate a standstill gingerbread house that gives a nod to a STEM event or topic, like the momentous moon landing or the study of chemistry. Your amazing creation can be constructed by collaborating virtually with students at home or in class together.
What are the requirements?
Your cookie creation can be constructed by working together with students in your classroom.
Gingerbread houses must follow these building guidelines:
- Stand on its own
- Have at least four walls and a roof
- Feature some nod to a STEM topic or event

How do you enter?
- Post a photo of your class's gingerbread house on Facebook, X, or Instagram. We also welcome pictures of your K-12 students in-progress constructing the houses.
- Tag us in your post, use the hashtag #ELGingerneering2024, and make sure your page is public so we can see your post.

1. Eligibility: This Contest is open only to individuals who are: (1) 18 years of age or older as of the date of entry, and (2) legal residents of the United States, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico; and (3) are currently full or part-time employees at a School or school district for the grades Kindergarten through fifth grade (an “Educator”). A “School” is defined as (i) a kindergarten through 12th grade public or private school (i) located within the U.S. that is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Tax code or is registered as a public school with the National Center for Educational Statistics. Employees, officers, directors, or agents of ExploreLearning, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and suppliers, (collectively the “Employees”), and immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of Employees are not eligible to participate in the Contest. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, municipal, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited.
All prizes will be awarded to the winning Entrant for the benefit of the Entrant’s School of employment, classroom, or educational purpose; and will NOT be awarded to the individual winning Entrant. Prior to entering, you must confirm whether your School or district has any policies or restrictions concerning participation in contests. By entering into the Contest, you represent and warrant that your School has consented to your entry, including the potential use of the Prize described below, and that your participation in the Contest does not violate any School or district policies with which you are required to comply. If, for any reason, any Winner is not able to accept a prize, including due to School policies, the prize will be forfeited, and Sponsor will have no further obligation to such Entrant or School. Sponsor hereby disclaims any and all liability and responsibility for disputes arising between an Entrant, School, or district related to this Contest.
2. Agreement to Rules: By participating, the Contestant (“You”) agree to be fully and unconditionally bound by these Rules, and You represent and warrant that You meet the eligibility requirements. In addition, You agree to accept the decisions of ExploreLearning as final and binding as it relates to the content of this Contest.
3. Entry Period: The 2024 ExploreLearning(R) Gingerneering Contest (this “Contest”) begins on November 4 2024, 12:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time ("EST") and ends on December 31 2024, 11:59 p.m. EST. Sponsor’s computer is the official time-keeping device for this Contest.
4. How to Enter: There is one (1) method of entry. The Contest must be entered by posting a picture or video of Entrants submission on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or X with the hashtag #ELGingerneering2024 (an “Entry”). The Entry must fulfill all Contest and Additional Entry requirements (provided below), as specified, to be eligible to win a prize. Entries that are incomplete or do not adhere to the rules or specifications may be disqualified at the sole discretion of ExploreLearning. You may enter only once. You may not enter more times than indicated by using multiple email addresses, identities, or devices in an attempt to circumvent the rules. If you use fraudulent methods or otherwise attempt to circumvent the rules, your submission may be removed from eligibility at the sole discretion of ExploreLearning. All online entries must be received by December 31 2024, 11:59 p.m. EST.
Additional Entry Requirements:
- Entries must not include images or videos which include students or other individuals for which Entrant has not received proper consent to do so. Sponsor reserves the right to request proof of consent if any submissions contain any distinguishing features of other individuals.
- Entries must not infringe on the intellectual property or other proprietary rights of a third party.
5. Prizes; Odds; Notification: Sponsor will award ten (10) total prizes (ARV: $300). Sponsor will award the following Prizes in each of the Contest Categories below:
- Two (2) Grand Prizes, each being one (1) Amazon(R) e-gift card valued at $50.
- Two (2) Best Edible Prizes, each being one (1) Amazon(R) e-gift card valued at $25.
- Two (2) Best Non-Food Prizes, each being one (1) Amazon(R) e-gift card valued at $25.
- Two (2) Most Delicious Looking Prizes, each being one (1) Amazon(R) e-gift card valued at $25.
- Two (2) Best Nod to Science Prizes, each being one (1) Amazon(R) e-gift card valued at $25.
Gift cards are subject to the terms and conditions of the issuer. Gift cards may expire or incur fees if not fully used within a specified period of time as indicated by the issuer. Check the terms of the card promptly upon receipt. Odds of winning a prize depend on the number of eligible entries received during the Entry Period. Limit one (1) prize per person. Sponsor makes no representation to any winner as to the fitness or suitability of a prize for any purpose, and Sponsor hereby disclaims any and all warranties, express or implied, concerning any prize. By entering this Contest, each Contestant consents to be contacted via direct message on the social platform their Entry was submitted, in Sponsor’s discretion, for purposes relating to this Sweepstakes. A potential winner is required to respond within two (2) days of Sponsor’s initial notification attempts. A potential winner may be required to sign, have notarized and return an affidavit of eligibility and release of liability and publicity release and IRS Form W-9 (Request for Taxpayer Identification) within five (5) business days of potential winner’s receipt of such documents to claim a prize. Winner may also be required to provide a copy of the winner's driver license for eligibility verification. If potential winner (1) cannot be contacted; (2) fails to reply to notification within two (2) days of notification; (3) fails to comply with these Official Rules; and/or (4) does not return any required documentation or eligibility verification by the due date, then the potential winner may be disqualified and the prize forfeited and Sponsor may select an alternate potential winner from the remaining eligible entries received during the Entry Period. Sponsor shall not be held responsible for any delays in awarding a prize for any reason. Prize will be delivered via email provided by the Contestant. Please allow up to thirty (30) days for prize delivery after winner verification. Prize is non-transferable. No prize substitution or cash equivalent of any prize is permitted, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion, and then only for a prize of equal or greater value. All taxes or expenses, including, without limitation, sales tax, federal, state and local income tax, and any other costs incurred in claiming or using prize, are the sole responsibility of the prize winner.
7. Winner Selection and Notification: At the end of the Entry Period, a panel of judges, consisting of personnel representing or under the supervision of ExploreLearning, will evaluate and score each Entry based on the following criteria (“Criteria”): (a) creativity; (b) ability to recreate a scientific event/phenomenon; (c) overall design of Entry gingerbread house, and (d) adherence to eligibility and entry requirements. The top two (2) scoring Entries in each of the Contest Categories, will be declared a potential winner. Winners will be notified via the channel through which they entered within five (5) days following selection of Winner. ExploreLearning shall have no liability for Winner’s failure to receive notices due to spam, junk e-mail, or other security settings or for Winner’s provision of incorrect or otherwise non-functioning contact information. If Winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim the prize within five (5) from the time award notification was sent, or fails to timely return a completed and executed declaration and release as required, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate Winner selected. Receipt by Winner of the prize offered in this Contest is conditioned upon compliance with any and all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. ANY VIOLATION OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES BY WINNER (AT EXPLORELEARNING‘S SOLE DISCRETION) WILL RESULT IN WINNER’S DISQUALIFICATION AS WINNER OF THE Contest, AND ALL PRIVILEGES AS WINNER WILL BE IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED.
8. Rights Granted by You: By entering this Contest, You understand and agree that ExploreLearning, anyone acting on behalf of ExploreLearning, and ExploreLearning’s licensees, successors, and assigns, shall have the right, where permitted by law, to print, publish, broadcast, distribute, and use in any media now known or hereafter developed, in perpetuity and throughout the World, without limitation, your entry, including name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, image, statements about the Contest, and biographical information for news, publicity, information, trade, advertising, public relations, and promotional purposes without any further compensation, notice, review, or consent. By entering this content, You represent and warrant that your entry is an original work of authorship, and does not violate any third party’s proprietary or intellectual property rights. If your entry infringes upon the intellectual property right of another, You will be disqualified at the sole discretion of ExploreLearning. If the content of your entry is claimed to constitute infringement of any proprietary or intellectual proprietary rights of any third party, You shall, at your sole expense, defend or settle against such claims. You shall indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ExploreLearning from and against any suit, proceeding, claims, liability, loss, damage, costs or expense, which ExploreLearning may incur, suffer, or be required to pay arising out of such infringement or suspected infringement of any third party’s right.
9. Terms & Conditions: ExploreLearning reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest should a virus, bug, non-authorized human intervention, fraud, or other cause beyond ExploreLearning's control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Contest. In such a case, ExploreLearning may select the Winner from all eligible entries received prior to and/or after (if appropriate) the action taken by ExploreLearning. ExploreLearning reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers or attempts to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or website or violates these Terms & Conditions. ExploreLearning has the right, in its sole discretion, to maintain the integrity of the Contest, to void votes for any reason, including, but not limited to: multiple entries from the same user from different IP addresses; multiple entries from the same computer in excess of that allowed by Contest rules; or the use of bots, macros, scripts, or other technical means for entering. Any attempt by an Entrant to deliberately damage any website or undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil laws. Should such an attempt be made, ExploreLearning reserves the right to seek damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.
10. Limitation of Liability: By entering, Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of Sponsor, which will be final and binding in all respects. By entering, Entrants acknowledge and agree that Sponsor, its affiliates, advertising and promotion agencies, and all of their respective officers, directors, employees, representatives and agencies (the “Released Parties”) are not responsible and shall have no liability for: (a) entries that contain incomplete or inaccurate information or do not otherwise comply with these Official Rules; (b) entries, prize claims or notifications that are lost, late, incomplete, illegible, unintelligible, damaged, garbled, misdirected, or otherwise not received by Sponsor or its agents for any reason; (c) any typographical or other error in any materials relating to this Contest; (d) any problems or technical malfunctions, or causes beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control that jeopardize the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest. Except where prohibited by law, by participating, Entrants and winners agree to, and hereby waive, release and hold harmless the Released Parties from and against (1) any and all claims, actions, and/or liability, for loss, harm, damage, injury, cost or expense whatsoever and of any kind with respect to or in any way arising from entry or participation in the Contest and/or in any Contest-related activity and/or use of the prize, including, without limitation, property damage, liability for personal injury (including emotional distress), and/or death caused, directly or indirectly, from the awarding, acceptance, possession, use, misuse, loss or misdirection of any prize, and (2) for any claims or causes of action based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy and merchandise delivery. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual it finds to be (i) tampering with the entry process or the operation of this Contest; or (ii) acting in violation of these Official Rules. If Sponsor determines, in its sole discretion, that this Contest cannot be executed as planned, including, but not limited to, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor that corrupt or affect the security, administration, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest, or if this Contest is compromised in any way, electronically or otherwise, Sponsor reserves the right to terminate this Contest, and to award the prize by a random drawing from all eligible entries received prior to the date of cancellation or suspension.
11. Disputes: THIS Contest IS GOVERNED BY THE LAWS OF the United States AND Virginia, WITHOUT RESPECT TO CONFLICT OF LAW DOCTRINES. As a condition of participating in this Contest, Entrant agrees that any and all disputes that cannot be resolved between the parties, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, exclusively before a court located in Virginia having jurisdiction. Further, in any such dispute, under no circumstances shall Entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and hereby waives all rights to, punitive, incidental, or consequential damages, including reasonable attorney’s fees, other than Entrant’s actual out-of-pocket expenses (i.e. costs associated with entering this Contest). Entrant further waives all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.

13. Winners List: To obtain a copy of the Winner’s name, the score card used to judge the submissions, or a copy of these Official Rules, mail your request along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope to: ExploreLearning 110 Avon Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902, USA. Requests must be received no later than January 10, 2024, 11:59 p.m. EST.
14. Sponsor: The “Sponsor” of this Contest is ExploreLearning 110 Avon Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902, USA.
15. The Contest hosted by ExploreLearning is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or X.
16. By entering, You, the Contestant, have affirmatively reviewed, accepted, and agreed to all of the Official Rules.
