ExploreLearning is proud to announce that Frax, Reflex, and Gizmos have all earned efficacy badges from the International Certification of Evidence of Impact in Education (ICEIE). These ICEIE certifications recognize edtech products' ability to demonstrate a positive impact on student outcomes with high-quality, peer-reviewed research evidence.
The impact of ICEIE recognitions
ICEIE is a global non-profit organization that aims to document evidence and impact in edtech. The organization established research-based evaluation frameworks that recognize a product for demonstrating a positive impact on student learning outcomes with peer-reviewed and high-quality evidence.
Educators are flooded with endless edtech options, making it even more critical to evaluate and select tools validated with third-party evidence. ICEIE developed a “Catalogue of Recommended Resources” to help schools make informed decisions about products with rigorous, independent research verified by third-party evidence.
ICEIE certification levels and research standards for edtech
The ICEIE designed its certification levels (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) to align with both US-based ESSA standards and internationally recognized benchmarks and awards. All applications are reviewed by qualified, Ph.D.-level experts in edtech research selected by the ICEIE Academic Advisory Board.
Two of the ICEIE badges, Efficacy and Effectiveness, recognize products for demonstrating enhanced student learning with high-quality research conducted or validated by third-party research organizations.
- Effectiveness (or usability) research: Generally conducted in real-world classroom settings and includes observational and correlational research methodologies.
- Efficacy (or experimental) research: Refers to more tightly controlled research studies.
Both experimental and usability evidence are important for edtech companies to demonstrate – ensuring that schools make informed decisions about adopting products that will work for their students.
ExploreLearning’s ICEIE badges
Reflex, Gizmos, and Frax earned Silver badges in Efficacy. ESSA Tier 3 product certifications from Digital Promise (2024) served as supporting evidence.
Frax also earned the ICEIE Silver badge in Effectiveness, with an external LXD Research Recognition (ESSA II) serving as evidence.

These recognitions underscore ExploreLearning’s commitment to creating and continuously enhancing evidence-based learning solutions.
Reflex’s adaptive math fact fluency program is driven by research and focused on a fact-family approach. Gizmos math and science simulations foster inquiry-based learning in grades 3-12 and have demonstrated impacts on student achievement. And the game-based fractions solution, Frax, helps students of all achievement levels make significant gains in fractions knowledge and elementary math as a whole.
