Every once in a while we get a Gizmo request from so many teachers that we just have to do it. That is the case with our new Frog Dissection Gizmo. The Gizmo allows students to interact with 3D male and female frog models. Students can rotate, pan, zoom in, and zoom out of the model. Students are provided with a standard dissection kit (scalpel, forceps, and pins) and, after opening the chest cavity, can use the forceps to remove organs. Students then sort the organs into organ system diagrams. It is quite the challenge to get all the organs into the right places!
Because their internal organs are similar to our own, studying frog anatomy is a great introduction to human anatomy and organ systems. The Gizmo can be used to as a preview for a hands-on dissection lab or as a substitute.
